SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – September 2026 – Dragon Q Energy (DQE), the power technology company developing solutions for critical infrastructure, introduced The PowrTrain™, its portfolio of patent-pending electrical reference designs for next-generation data centers. The PowrTrain™ was developed to address the changing power requirements of increasingly large and power-dense AI infrastructure. DQE is currently advancing the architecture through digital-twin development and technical evaluation while engaging with organizations across the data center ecosystem toward commercial licensing.
Rather than treating data center power as a collection of individual electrical components, The PowrTrain™ rethinks the architecture connecting them. The designs combine intelligent power paths, advanced fast-switching controls, energy storage, and supercapacitors to manage how power moves through the facility and maintain operations through grid disturbances, equipment faults, and planned maintenance. The result is a grid-flexible infrastructure layer designed to deliver 100% uptime, concurrent maintainability, and operational continuity while enabling data centers to respond more effectively to changing grid conditions.
The PowrTrain™ arrives at an inflection point for data center power infrastructure. AI and high-performance computing are driving unprecedented increases in facility scale and power density, while grid interconnection constraints, transient loads, new utility large-load requirements, and increasingly stringent reliability demands are changing how data centers must interact with and manage power. The PowrTrain™ is designed to address these emerging conditions while spanning today’s medium- and low-voltage AC systems through next-generation 800–1500VDC distribution, allowing the architecture to evolve alongside the infrastructure it supports.
Rather than manufacturing an entire data center electrical system, DQE plans to license The PowrTrain™ architecture and underlying intellectual property for integration with technologies from equipment manufacturers and other partners across the data center ecosystem. This approach offers several advantages, including a standardized, repeatable reference design that can simplify engineering and support a more efficient grid interconnection and approval process. It also allows DQE to focus on the architecture itself while enabling partners to integrate The PowrTrain into real-world data center infrastructure.
DQE has begun advancing The PowrTrain™ from architecture development toward technical and market validation. The company is developing a simulation-ready model for the power portion of a full data center digital twin, enabling the architecture to be evaluated across a range of operating conditions. In parallel, DQE is engaging with data center operators, engineering organizations, equipment manufacturers, and other industry participants to validate the designs against real-world requirements.
