Dragon Q Energy Referred for SOCOM Engagement

"Given the need for alternative, more efficient energy sources, this tech has the potential to enhance each of the SOF CORE activities"

Dragon Q Energy's core battery technology has been referred for further engagement by U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) following a positive assessment through the Vulcan Engage SOF (eSOF) program.

Our underground battery energy storage system scored in the top tier across several key evaluation areas, including technical maturity, SOF-peculiar relevance, and potential to support multi-domain operations. As a result, SOCOM has recommended our solution for further review by mission area leaders and subject matter experts, particularly in the field of power and energy.

The assessment highlighted our battery system as a high-potential technology with strong technical maturity and clear relevance to special operations missions. The reviewers commended the system’s innovative safety architecture, including its fireproof, pressurized argon design and passive underground thermal regulation. They recognized its ability to enhance operations in multi-domain environments—particularly for Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), Tactical Operations Centers (TOCs), and partner force support.

About the Vulcan and eSOF Programs

The Vulcan program is a key innovation platform within SOCOM, designed to scout, assess, and accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies that address evolving operational needs for U.S. Special Operations Forces. The program leverages a rigorous, metric-based evaluation process to identify solutions with the potential to enhance mission effectiveness, adaptability, and multi-domain operations.

eSOF is the U.S. Special Operations Command’s structured pathway for discovering and advancing new technologies. Listed on the Vulcan platform, eSOF connects innovative, SOF-relevant solutions with the right decision-makers inside SOCOM. Submissions are reviewed for mission alignment, and promising technologies may be referred for deeper evaluation, prototyping, or field experimentation.

A positive review from eSOF signals that Dragon Q’s battery system demonstrates strong technical maturity and relevance to SOF mission requirements, particularly in supporting forward operating bases and tactical operations centers. The assessment highlighted our technology’s strengths in safety and thermal management, as well as its applicability to disaggregated forces and multi-domain operations. This endorsement increases our visibility within the broader government innovation ecosystem and opens the door to further engagement with SOCOM and other defense stakeholders.

What's next?

Following our positive assessment and referral, our application will now move into the next phase of engagement with SOCOM. This may include technical follow-up discussions, live or virtual demonstrations, and potential participation in upcoming experimentation events. Our Scout Card will remain active on the Vulcan platform, making our technology visible to a broader network of defense stakeholders across the U.S. government. As we continue refining and scaling our system, we’re looking forward to deeper collaboration with SOCOM teams and exploring how our technology can directly support mission-critical energy needs in the field.
